Statement of Intent
My music video will be a protest video against the pressure society and social media creates for people to look or be a certain way.
In my music video I aim to create a vibrant and colourful theme with natural lighting to spark happiness and excitement in the viewer. I will also maintain this excitement through the use of mostly fast paced camera shots which change on the beat, making the video uplifting and joyful which will make the audience feel empowered.
In my music video I aim to create a vibrant and colourful theme with natural lighting to spark happiness and excitement in the viewer. I will also maintain this excitement through the use of mostly fast paced camera shots which change on the beat, making the video uplifting and joyful which will make the audience feel empowered.
The video will be shot in a range of locations to provide some elements of escapism; however, everything will still be shot in England which will make the video feel relevant and homely for the audience who will be mostly British.
Although I would like to include lots of people in my video, the main focus will be the artist who will be a similar age to the audience. By keeping the artist as the central point of my video, the audience will form a connection with them and pick out the similarities to themselves which should be helped by their closeness in age. This is partially inspired by the original video for Perfect To Me where the camera shows a variety of people while always making sure to come back to Anne-Marie and each individual is normally on their own in their shot which is something I would also like to do because it reiterates the importance of the individual. Anne-Marie’s music video also shows the clapper board before some shots which makes it feel raw and although the video appears stylish it gives the audience an insight to the crew behind the camera and the fact that this isn’t necessarily how people look or act in everyday life. I would like to do something similar in my music video by filming someone filming the artist. As well as taking inspiration from Anne-Marie’s music video, I would also like to use elements from Birdy’s video People Help the People. In her video there are close-ups of people who appear to be unaware of the camera in a ‘fly on the wall’ style shot which I would also like to do in my video.
My video will contain an intertextual reference to the film Mean Girls where the characters are standing at the mirror picking apart the things they don’t like about themselves. I will recreate this scene in my music video which the audience will find humorous and may provide nostalgia as this would be a childhood film for those aged 16-25. Furthermore, it will keep the video light hearted and positive to make the viewer feel better about themselves rather than overwhelmed.
The website for my artist will have the same bright colour scheme as the music video and the pictures on there will show the artist in the same hair and makeup as the video. It will have one large page which will have different sections as it is scrolled down and then there will also be a separate page for merchandise which can be viewed via a link on the first page. When the website is first opened, the music video will be the first thing the viewer sees.
This looks great so far! Don't forget the website, and how the video and website will connect. Ms Cope
